Every moment of your life is an experience to choose who you want to be. Have you ever wondered how two people can have the same experience and yet when each of them shares their experience they describe something very different? This happens because each person has the choice to determine who they want to be in that experience.
It is not the experiences that you are having in your life that creates meaning. It is your reaction to the experience that creates meaning for you. You have an amazing power to choose what you want to create in every moment. Most people create their experience unconsciously. They let the experience be defined by what they have been taught and conditioned to believe.
Here is an example. For most people filing bankruptcy is a very negatively charged experience. Most people going through bankruptcy feel like they have failed, they beat themselves up because they did something wrong to be in this situation. They tie filing bankruptcy to their worth. They believe things like people who work hard don’t get into this situation. There are many stigmas and beliefs attached to bankruptcy. I met someone once who had just filed bankruptcy and he was incredibly happy. When we talked about the experience he shared that he saw the day he filed bankruptcy as the biggest pay day of his life. He had started two businesses because he had a product he believed would have a positive impact on the world and neither of them were a success. Because the businesses didn’t take off the way he hoped they would, it left him in a financial struggle and ultimately bankruptcy. He felt blessed to have had the opportunity to pursue his dream. He saw bankruptcy not as a failure but instead as a chance to reset his life after pursuing his dream.
What is different between the person that feels like a failure in the midst of bankruptcy and the one who feels they received a blessing from bankruptcy? Their beliefs attached to the meaning of a bankruptcy and who they choose to be during the experience.
You always have the power to choose the meaning you attach to an experience and who you want to be. When you take the time to consciously process the meaning you are attaching to an experience you get to decide if you are being who you want to be. I encourage you to take the time to focus your awareness on what you are creating in each experience. Focus on the meanings attached and decide if you are being who you want to be. You have the power to create what you choose from every experience!
