I’m hitting the BS button on this. You with me?

Caution: This is going to be a bit of a rant!  I’m getting on my soap box to share.  🙂

Today I was working on creating a flyer for an In Power Sisterhood event.  I was struggling to find the right word for the flyer…you know those moments when you know what you want to say but the right word just isn’t coming to mind.  I wanted to express self-love but the word self-love wasn’t fitting in with what I was working on.  To get some help calling in the right word I opened up Word, typed in self-love and then ask for synonyms.  What I found caused this rant to have to be said.

I sat staring at my screen…what the heck was I seeing?  Here are the synonyms that were listed for self-love…egotism, selfishness, egocentricity, narcissism and egoism.  What…unbelievable!  I thought shame on you Microsoft for putting that into Word.  Then I tried going online and asking for synonyms & found the same thing.  Holy moly…this is absolutely crazy and to me, unacceptable.

I work with a lot of women and I see how life experiences condition you and me to believe we are far less than we really. No wonder it’s a struggle for so many women to learn to love themselves and to take time out for self-care and self-love when we are taught self-love means the same as egotism, selfishness, egocentricity, narcissism and egoism.  Well I’m personally hitting the BS button on this one.  While I don’t know how to change the online or Word’s synonyms for self-love, I can remind you that is your birth right and the birth right of every woman (and man too) to have and be love.  Self-love is a beautiful thing and you should not let anyone or anything convince you otherwise.

There is nothing you should have to say or do to get it…you just deserve love because you are you!  And the most important person you deserve love from is you.  Please look past everything the world is telling you about self-love and listen what your heart knows is true…you deserve love from you, it’s key to being everything you have the potential to be and it is time for you to be all that!  So give your yourself some self-love!
