Life’s a Dance…How are you moving & grooving?

As I work with women to reconnect to their inner power magic happens and they begin to see big shifts in their life.  One of the common questions that comes up as the women I work with shift is about how to deal with the relationship with people in their lives while they are changing and expanding.

I compare the journey of personal growth and spiritual evolution to a dance.  Your whole life you have been doing a dance with everyone in your circle of influence, including your family and friends, meaning that you have a way of interacting with each other.  You have a way of behaving and reacting and everyone around you also has a way of behaving and reacting.  As long as no one does a shift in the dance everyone knows their part.

Think of this as though everyone is doing the same dance step, let’s say the Tango.  When you do the Tango, most of the people in your circle of influence have learned to do the Tango with you.  You have all learned to move to the same music, doing the same steps and it works beautifully.  Together you have learned to do a beautiful Tango!

Then with your personal growth and spiritual evolution, you are growing, changing how you see things and how you show up in the world.  You change the dance you are doing.  You are learning new dances and new ways of being that you never knew before.  All the sudden you realize there is more to dancing in your life than always doing the Tango.  Where you only saw the Tango before, you now see the opportunity to do new dance steps.  So you let go of the old Tango steps and begin doing a new dance, let’s say the Salsa.  As you are exploring new edges of you, the Salsa feels great.

Something happens when you begin to do the Salsa.  The people around you will continue to react the way they always have, they will continue do the Tango because that’s what they know and that’s what they are comfortable with.  So when you show up doing the Salsa it is a bit of a shock.  They don’t know what you are doing because you have always done the Tango.  This can be a bit awkward and uncomfortable.  The key to working through the shift in the dance moves is to be conscious of what is taking place.

Honor the journey of those who want to Tango, be aware when you are doing the Tango and when you are doing the Salsa.  It’s about everyone being able to dance the dance that serves them where they are in their journey.  When you know what’s happening in the dance you get to choose your dance while loving and honoring those around you choosing their dance.  That’s how powerful you are!

How have you experienced shifts in yourself with people around you?  Are you consciously choosing your dance?  Share your thoughts and feelings with our sisterhood.  We all learn and grow together when we share.
